Songfacts®:

  • Eleven was Martina's first album for Republic Nashville, ending a 20-year association with RCA. Label head Scott Borchetta encouraged her to write more songs for the record than she had on any of her previous 10 albums, and she ended up co-writing six of the 11 tracks. Amongst them was this album closer about being away from home from her three daughters.
  • Martina penned this song with Josh Kear (Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats") and Mark Irwin (Alan Jackson's "Here In The Real World"). She told The Boot she feels this cut reflects her growth as a songwriter. The Kansas native explained: "'Long Distance Lullaby' was something different than I had ever written before. So much of it is drawn from what I feel when I'm away from my kids. It's a huge part of me."
