Songfacts®:

  • This mid-tempo R&B number is the second single from American R&B singer-songwriter Mary J Blige's ninth studio album, Stronger With Each Tear. It was originally intended that "Good Love" would be the follow-up to "The One," but for unknown reasons the release never materialized.
  • This song, in which Blige sings "Nobody's gonna treat you as good as I am," was penned by the singer-songwriter and R&B songwriter Johntá Austin, who also co-wrote Blige's Grammy-winning hit "Be Without You." It features musical production from the Norwegian team Stargate.
  • Blige performed "I Am" live for the first time at the 2009 American Music Awards on November 22, 2009.
  • The music video, in which Blige reminds her lover that she's the best he's ever had, was directed by Anthony Mandler.
  • Blige performed this on the Late Show with David Letterman in 2010.
  • The single peaked at #4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and #3 on the US Dance chart.
