Songfacts®:

  • This sun-kissed anthem was penned by Megan with songwriters Morgan Taylor Reid and Mika "Prophet" Guillory. The latter pair also co-wrote The Backstreet Boys' "It's Christmas Time Again."
  • The summery song was actually written in December. Megan recalled to Artist Direct: "We were throwing around ideas for the album. I didn't have any fun, light-hearted, good, upbeat, danceable songs. I thought the best way to portray that was summertime."
  • Megan explained the song's meaning to Artist Direct: "It's hanging out with your friends," she said. "Even though it talks about 'Summer Forever,' some people take it so literally like it's the season of summer. I think it's more about not wanting summer to end because at the end of summer, you're worried about that 'summer love' ending."
  • The lighthearted video portrays Megan's goofy side. She came up with several ideas for the clip including the bit where she's singing in a giant inflatable donut.
