  • Metric lead singer Emily Haines fesses up to her flaws in this song and thanks those who helped her through the roughest of patches.

"I don't think in all my life, in all the songs I've written, that I have ever conceded defeat so plainly," she told Forbes. "There's no subtext, there are no excuses. But also, notably, there is no apology. It was so freeing to own that unvarnished reality, as I am someone who will fight with all my heart to the point of total self-destruction in trying save or solve or change something that's broken. But it really is true that there is a limit to our power over many things in this life and I guess this song was me finally arriving at that limit. The chorus is very much a dedication to my friends, to my band, my family, to the people who listen to our music and support us. When I say, 'If it wasn't for your kindness, I think I might be dead,' it's a genuine expression of gratitude to everyone that has my back."
  • "No Lights On The Horizon" is the closing track on Metric's seventh album, Art Of Doubt. It ends on a happy note. "After all the emotions we inhabit in the previous 11 tracks, it felt right to bring the listener all the way back down to earth at the end," Haines said. "Even though the sentiment is dark, there's a kind of euphoria when the band kicks in after I say, 'Paper walls break and it's all falling through.'" >>>
