Songfacts®:

  • Here, Midland singer Mark Wystrach is wondering if his lover is cheating on him. The scent of cigarettes on her jacket (she doesn't smoke), the little black dress she's started wearing, and her vague answers all arouse his suspicions. He concludes "she's lyin' with him and she's lyin' to me."
  • The song retains Midland's throwback country sound but with some unconventional touches that pull it into the modern age, Producer Dann Huff plays the Solina synthesizer, while Robbie Crowell and Charlie Judge contribute Wurlitzer and B-3 organs, respectively. "We're interested, personally, in believing in the music, Wystrach mused to Flaunt. "The greatest curse is going to play music that doesn't compel you."
  • Midland filmed the video at North Hollywood's Palomino Club, a long-defunct honky tonk that they re-opened specifically for the clip.

The visual was directed by Collin Duddy, who is the brother of Midland bassist Cameron Duddy. Duddy comprises one-half of the Waffsicle YouTube channel, which showcases his other video productions, including commercials for Mikes Hard Lemonade.
