Songfacts®:

  • This autobiographical song finds Posner singing about his hometown of Detroit. The affectionate lyrics show the singer's attachment to his city of birth.
  • Posner used to live in New York City and now resides in LA, but he states here that he wants to be buried in Detroit when he dies. Posner wrote in a Genius attribution:

"I don't know exactly which cemetery or anything like that but yeah, I think my body will go back.

It is interesting, there is a cemetery near me that my piano teacher, who is a huge mentor to me, he arranged the strings on 'Buried in Detroit' and conducted it and wrote the piano part that I played. And he was just like a father to me. He passed away in January and he is buried in LA, in a place called Forest Lawn, which is right near my house."
