Songfacts®:

  • Written by original Misfits singer Glenn Danzig, "She" is an ode to Patricia Hearst, an American heiress who was kidnapped by the Symbionese Liberation Army in 1974 and went on to commit armed robbery during her time in captivity. When she was arrested 19 months later, she argued against the allegations that she was a willing participant in the crimes of which she was accused, claiming she had been brainwashed. The prosecution argued that she had committed the crimes of her own volition, and Hearst was initially sentenced to 35 years in prison for her role in a bank robbery. Her sentence was later commuted to seven years, and Hearst was ultimately pardoned by President Bill Clinton in 2001.

At the time "She" was penned, Hearst had only recently been sentenced, and the story was still fresh in the minds of music fans and the media.
  • "She" is one of the earliest Misfits songs, released as the B-side of their first single, "Cough / Cool," in 1977. It was slated for their album Static Age in 1978, but legal and logistical issues kept the album on the shelf until 1996, when it was finally issued.

  • Luna Loud from Royal Woods, MichiganI think this song was re-recorded at least twice; the version on 1985's Legacy Of Brutality, and the version on the 1987 Misfits Collection.
