• Nate Smith was born and raised in Paradise, California, a small town in the Sierra Nevada foothills.
• Smith developed a love for music at an early age, picking up the guitar at age 13. "Everybody else was doing sports, and I was at home picking on my guitar," he remembered to Opry. Smith soon became involved in his local church and began leading worship during Sunday services.
• At age 23, Smith decided to chase his musical dreams and relocated to Nashville. He signed with the Christian labels Word Records and Centricity Music but struggled to gain traction. Disappointed, he returned to California and took on a new job as a Certified Nursing Assistant in a hospital.
• In 2018, Smith's home in Paradise burned down in the Butte County Camp Fire. "If I had stayed in that apartment another hour, I wouldn't have lived," he told Billboard.
  
  The tragedy inspired him to write "One of These Days," a tribute song to honor his hometown, which was devastated by the wildfire. The song went viral, and its success encouraged Smith to return to Nashville a second time.
• His song "Wildfire" went viral on TikTok in 2020, leading to a publishing deal with Sony/ATV4.
• Smith was married for two years in his early 20s before getting divorced. "I was way too immature," he told The Viall Files podcast. "I didn't know how to stick it out. I was 23. She was 34."
• Nate Smith told Apple Music that one of his "fatal flaws" in romance is how quickly he gets excited and shares his emotions upfront. He often catches himself thinking, "You could be the one!" early on, but admits that once reality kicks in and he notices red flags, he tends to run scared. Nate's honesty and vulnerability, even about these moments of doubt, set him apart from other country artists who might shy away from such personal admissions.
