Furtado links up with Portuguese singer-songwriter Sara Tavares on this song about grace, joy, faith, commitment and ecstasy. Tavares composes African, Portuguese and North American influenced world music. She first came to the attention of many in her native country when at the age of 16 she won the Portuguese Television Song Contest final in 1994, consequently earning a place in that year's Eurovision Song Contest, with the song "Chamar a Música" reaching eighth place. The songstress became a national star with her 1999 sophomore album, Mi Ma Bo released by RCA, which went gold in Portugal.
"Sloop John B" is a traditional West Indian folk song, and it was a huge hit for The Beach Boys in 1966. They tweaked the lyric, "This is the worst trip since I've been born" to "...I've ever been on" as a wink to acid culture.
