Songfacts®:

  • Nelly teamed up with Chris Brown and the production duo Da Internz for the first single from his seventh album, M.O.. "Getting with them [Da Internz] I'd definitely knew we'd come up with something I've never done before and we came up with the 'Marry Go Round' which I thought was dope," he told Billboard magazine. "We called Chris up and he was like, 'Cool. Let's rock.'"
  • The song's title is a play on words comparing the ups and downs of the love game to a fairground carousel. Other references to 'marry go round' include Duncan Sheik's 2006 track "So Gone," on which he sings "How many times on this marry-go-round. Over and over again." Also Rihanna croons on her A Girl Like Me (deluxe edition) track, "Hypnotized," "You got me spinning like a marry-go-round. Feels like I'm flying but I ain't left the ground."
