Songfacts®:

  • This uptempo ballad was released as the second single from Nicki Minaj's sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Unloaded. Los Angeles-based Turkish-American record producer "Oak" Felder and his partner, Andrew "Pop" Wansel, created the soundscape. The pair also helmed Minaj's hit single, "Your Love." "Right By My Side" was made available on US iTunes on March 20, 2012 and was sent to radio a week later.
  • The R&B ballad finds Minaj primarily singing rather than rapping - "I'm not living life/ If you're not right by my side," she sings on the chorus. Chris Brown joins her on the song with some lines in which he croons his wish to reconcile with his girl after their relationship floundered. Both artists are serial collaborators, having contributed to many other tunes. However, this is the first time the pair have appeared on the same song.
