Nico wrote this song, which is about the possibility of nuclear destruction during the later half of the 20th century. Nico, who was born Christa Päffgen, grew up in Nazi Germany and later lived in a divided Germany during the cold war.
John Cale, who played with Nico in The Velvet Underground, produced this track and played the viola.
"Abracadabra" was inspired by Diana Ross and The Supremes. Steve Miller first met the girl group when they performed together on NBC's Hullabaloo in 1966, and he wrote the lyrics after spotting Diana Ross skiing in the mountains years later.
