Songfacts®:

  • Australian guitarist Orianthi Panagaris was chosen by Michael Jackson to be his lead guitarist for his This Is It concerts. Sadly the King of Pop passed away before they began, but she played and sang at Jackson's globally televised memorial, on July 7, 2009. "God Only Knows" was a late entry to her debut major album release, Believe and Orianthi has said that this song about loss is about both the death of Michael Jackson and a friend Diane who passed away two months later at the age of 25.
