  • Owl City is an electronica/pop project of Minnesota native Adam Young. He explained to Female First that this song, "is about swimming class in junior high."
  • This song first appeared on Owl City's debut album Maybe I'm Dreaming in 2008. It was re-worked for Ocean Eyes.
  • The song features guest vocals from keyboardist/singer Breanne Duren, who knew Young pre-MySpace fame. Duren released her own EP called Sparks in 2011.
  • Musicradar.com asked Young about the acoustic guitar he uses on this song. He replied: "I used my uncle's old '69 Alvarez. I am by no means a very good guitarist but I have a lot of fun layering things together."
