Songfacts®:

  • This fourth single from Paolo Nutini's second album, Sunny Side Up was penned by the Scottish singer/songwriter and the album's co-producer Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon, Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne).
  • The track is a ska-based love song spiced up by veteran Jamaican trombonist Rico Rodriguez of the Skatalites and Specials. Nutini said to the Vancouver publication Georgia Straights of the Rock Steady legend: "One of my favorite songs is 'A Message To You Rudy,' which was done by the Specials. He [Rodriguez] played on the old, original version. So for him to come and play on my song was just incredible."
Roots drummer ?uestlove also contributes to this number.
