Nutini wrote this song about his mother Linda, who is his biggest fan. The lyrics of the song include words of wisdom that she would say to Nutini when he was growing up. He explained to The Sun: "I'd already written a song about my dad so owed mum a tune. I think she's just happy that I'm back singing because she gets to go to all the gigs and hotels."
The song "Sadeness" by Enigma (the one with the chanting monks), got its name from the French novelist Marquis de Sade, who believed sex had to be painful in order to be pleasurable - thus the word "sadism."
"It's the End of the World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" was inspired by a dream where Michael Stipe conjured up images of people with the initials L.B.: Lester Bangs, Leonid Breshnev, Lenny Bruce and Leonard Bernstein.
