Songfacts®:

  • Peggy Gou is a South Korean DJ and record producer based in Germany. Gou's journey began when her folks shipped her off to London at just 14. First, she mastered the art of English, and then she dove headfirst into the vibrant world of fashion at the London College of Fashion. But that's not all - Gou's thirst for beats led her to a friend who schooled her in the ways of DJing during her late teens.

Gou graduated from spinning tunes to conquering the media scene. Taking up the role of London correspondent editor for Harper's Bazaar Korea, she spread her creative wings and soared. But the magnetic pull of Berlin proved too strong to resist, drawing her in like a moth to a flame.

Fast forward to her signing with the mighty XL Recordings, where Gou unleashed her first single under their banner, "(It Goes Like) Nanana."
  • Peggy Gou isn't shy of stepping up to the mic herself. Here, she pours her heart out about a feeling she can't quite put into words. "There's a feeling we all know but is hard to describe - that feeling of love, warmth and excitement when you're surrounded by friends and loved ones, and the energy speaks for itself," she told Apple Music. "It's difficult to put into words, but to me it goes, 'Nanana!'"
  • Peggy Gou wrote, produced, and mixed the feel-good house-pop track herself.
  • The South Korean DJ and producer premiered "(It Goes Like) Nanana" on May 1, 2023, at the closing weekend of London's Printworks clubs. "London and the UK have always been a special place for me," Gou said. "It's the city where I discovered my love of music and a place that has always shown me so much support. It was an honor to close Printworks and the perfect place to debut the track."
  • XL Recordings released "(It Goes Like) Nanana" on June 15, 2023. The song debuted at #14 on the UK Singles Chart the following week, marking Gou's first UK chart entry.
  • Before "(It Goes Like) Nanana," Gou's biggest hits, "Starry Night" and "It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)," were predominately sung in Korean. However, when she experimented with this approach for "Nanana," it didn't quite click, so she sang the entire track in English instead.
