Songfacts®:

  • In this song, Pink, the main character in the album The Wall, is addressing his wife, asking her to stick with him despite his indiscretions. Pink is a rock star, and rather delusional. Earlier on the album, in the song "Young Lust," he goes on the prowl for groupies. Still, he expects his wife to stay faithful.
  • The song was written and sung by Roger Waters, the bass player for Pink Floyd who came up with the concept of The Wall. In 1980 and 1981, the band performed the entire album at 31 extravagant shows where a wall was build in front of audience and eventually torn down, a visual representation of the main theme. Waters left the band in 1985 but performed the show with a new set of musicians, first in 1990 at a special concert in Berlin, then starting in 2010 on this The Wall Live tour.
  • In the 1982 film version of The Wall, this song is part of a memorable sequence where Pink, played by Bob Geldof, is tormented by the thought of his wife cheating on him. She then appears in animated from, transforming into a monster that terrifies him.
