Songfacts®:

  • This song about forgiveness was written by Joel Lindsey and Regie Hamm. Thirteen years later, Hamm wrote the 2008 American Idol winner David Cook's coronation song "The Time of My Life."
  • The Point of Grace trio had been brawling with each other just before they went into the studio to record this tune. However as they went through the song, its first line spoke to them ("Sometimes we don't see eye to eye / We don't agree, we don't know why"), and they forgave each other before carrying on with the recording.
  • Shelley Breen of Point of Grace said: "'Gather at the River' holds a special place in my heart because it talks about forgiveness and bringing people together. I think sometimes the body of Christ (the Church) is its own worst enemy. Arguing over petty differences leads to nothing but bitterness, and this song encourages and reminds us to put those aside for the higher cause of Christ, to love unconditionally."
