Songfacts®:

  • On this dark synthpop track from British-Persian artist Raphaella, the singer's ex has taken Adele's advice and found someone like her. "She even wears her hair like me," she sings, "I hope she makes you happy."

She said the tune is "about that moment when your ex tells you they've met someone new and you have to pretend you're happy for them when deep down you can just feel your heart drop. I think sometimes we have to literally fake it till we make it, and will ourselves to be happy until we actually are."
  • Raphaella is no stranger to the scenario she sings about in "Happy." She told Neon Music she started writing the song after she got a phone call that her ex had moved on.
  • On the contrary, the singer was glad to be rid of a different ex she wrote about on Cher Lloyd's song "Lost."
