Songfacts®:

  • This Shane McAnally, Lori McKenna and Josh Osborne penned tune carries on the Reba McEntire tradition of heartbreak songs. The songstress told Billboard magazine: "I think if you haven't had your heart broken, you're about six months old. Everybody has had their heart broken in one way or another, and everybody can relate to it. That hurts the most and that feeling really stands out until it heals. Then, you get your heart broken again, and you have to wait a little longer to heal. Singing the sad songs is just more relatable."
  • The song is about realizing you love someone once they're gone. "It's different than anything I've ever recorded before," Reba said to Radio.com. "It's so cleverly written. It's 1-2-3-4-A-B-C-D-left-right-up-down. It's just clever when you listen to it, and it's about a woman who's like, 'Yeah, I messed up. Sometimes you don't love somebody until they don't love you. Can we try it one more time?' And that person is out of there already."
