• The album revolves around Chuck Timely, a fictional time traveler portrayed by Role Model. He described the character as someone who somehow appears throughout pop-culture history, popping up in photographs across decades as if he'd wandered into them by accident. Through Chuck, Role Model explores the sounds and aesthetics of different eras, drawing inspiration from artists such as Fleetwood Mac, Hall & Oates, and Madonna.
  
  Written in Maine and recorded during a highly collaborative studio process, Chuck Timely & The Hourglass followed one strict creative rule: no synthesizers. Role Model wanted the energy and songwriting sensibilities of 1980s pop without relying on the electronic textures typically associated with the decade. Instead, the album leans on organic instrumentation to evoke a classic rock-and-pop feel.
• The music video for "High Hopes 3000" was directed by Danica Kleinknecht and filmed in the Hudson Valley town of Piermont, New York. Kleinknecht, whose previous credits include videos for Sabrina Carpenter and Conan Gray, helped bring to life a visual concept that Role Model described as "a weird mix of Footloose and Punch-Drunk Love, with some grease on it." It's an appropriately offbeat description for a song about waiting for life to change while suspecting that, in the meantime, you'll simply have to keep dancing through the uncertainty.
• "High Hopes 3000" began with a single line that Role Model had been holding onto for a long time: "Does love come around or does one come around to it?" He wanted that lyric to help set up the album and serve as the first single that introduced the whole project.
• The song came together differently from Role Model's usual writing process. He typically starts with a guitar, building the music around the instrument, but "High Hopes 3000" began with nothing more than the "Does love come around" lyric. He brought the line into the session, started singing over it, and let the song develop from there.
