Songfacts®:

  • The title may be a cliché, but this "Run For Your Life" is a well-remembered song recorded initially by a very short-lived band. Runner was formed in London in 1978. They recorded one album but split up while recording the second.

"Run For Your Life" was the second track on the eponymous Runner; it was written by band member Steve Gould and non-band member John Pidgeon, whose working life began with writing film reviews and ended with compiling crosswords for the Daily Telegraph newspaper.
  • The song is a warning to a groupie, letting her know that the band she worships doesn't worship her back - they probably don't ever think about her. "Run for your life girl," they tell her. "Run For Your Life" might be considered complementary to the Al Stewart song "Carol" from the 1975 Modern Times album.
  • Although Runner didn't stay the course, "Run For Your Life" was recorded by Sammy Hagar for his 1980 album Danger Zone with Steve Perry on backing vocals. >>
