  • Sam Smith has struggled with body image and self-esteem issues since their pre-teen years. Now they're older and wiser, the singer is learning to embrace themselves unconditionally and not take other people's criticism to heart. During this self-empowering anthem, Smith testifies how they're learning to love themselves more.
  • Knowing what it's like to feel different, Smith wrote "Love Me More" for all those who feel the same way and can't stop being unkind to themselves. Smith added they struggled with self-criticism for a long time, but slowly they're learning how to "just be nice" to themselves. As music has been the singer's therapy during the pandemic era, Smith hopes this self-worth anthem can act as a friend for their fans.
  • Smith wrote "Love Me More" with the song's producers Jimmy Napes and Stargate. Jimmy Napes has been Smith's songwriter partner since his breakthrough singles "Stay With Me" and "Lay Me Down." Mikkel S. Eriksen and Tor Hermansen of the Norwegian production duo Stargate have teamed up with Smith and Napes several times before including on "Too Good At Goodbyes" and "To Die For."
  • Stargate played drums and keys while Ben Jones played the guitar. A horde of well-known names contributed additional vocals, including Ty Dolla $ign, Jeremih, Eric Bellinger, and Ant Clemons.
  • Sam Smith and Luke Monaghan co-directed the video, shooting it in the heart of London. A story of liberation and joy, it begins with a VHS montage of footage from Smith's childhood to the beginning of their career, and also shows Smith dancing at a party with friends.

Previous visual collaborations between Smith and Monaghan include the clips for "I'm Not The Only One," "Writing's On The Wall," "Too Good At Goodbyes" and "Diamonds."
