Songfacts®:

  • A track from Nickel Creek member Sara Watkins' first solo album, "My Friend" finds her singing about someone who has gone through some tough times and is in need of relief.

In our interview with Watkins, she said that she had someone specific in mind when she wrote it, but over time it came to be about different people going through struggles - at times even herself. She calls it, "A prayer for someone who is going through a hard time and not really knowing how to help that person."
  • The album was produced by John Paul Jones, who made his mark as Led Zeppelin's bass player. On this track, Sara's brother (and Nickel Creek bandmate) Sean Watkins played guitar, and Michael Witcher added dobro.
