Songfacts®:

  • "All That Matters" is a musical call to arms, reminding us that in a world obsessed with noise, division, and outrage, there are still things worth holding onto: faith, family, and freedom. Skillet's musical manifesto is set against the backdrop of a society that has rather lost the plot.

"I was sick of all the anger, insanity, and violence in the world - people are constantly looking for something to hate online and yell about," Skillet frontman John Cooper explained to New Release Today.
  • Skillet recorded "All That Matters," for Revolution, their first independently released album, under the Hear It Loud label. The album's theme revolves around a "revolution for love."

"All That Matters" speaks to the division and the polarization happening, which is what the whole "revolution" thing is all about. They allude to it on the record cover, which shows a Skillet flag. In the corner it lists I Corinthians 13:13, which says, "Hold onto these things: faith, hope, love. But the greatest is love."
  • Brian Howes produced "All That Matters." Howes is a longtime collaborator of the band, having previously worked with them on Comatose (2006) and Unleashed (2016), meaning he has been around for both the brooding angst of their earlier work and the more anthemic battle cries of their later years. Howes also provided additional vocals on "All That Matters."
  • Clocking in at a trim 35 minutes and one second, Revolution is Skillet's shortest album to date - suggesting that while revolutions are important, they should also be efficient.
