Songfacts®:

  • This tune is about being locked in a cage by God - and not wanting to be let out. Skillet frontman John Cooper told Listenin.org: "It's kind of the idea of now that we're - we've been free - it's a choice that we've made because we know there's no where else to go, but I know there are times when I'm gonna try to live for something else... you know, because I'm an idiot or you do something stupid and you just realize I'm totally running away from being God's slave. So it's knowing this is where I want to be. It's also asking God if there's ever a time that I might run away from this I'd rather suffer pain and stay than to leave, you know? And that's what 'break my legs' is all about. It's the idea, 'Well I'd rather You break my legs so I can't run away than to run away.'"
