Songfacts®:

  • This chill electronic groove is a collaboration between DJ/musician Sofie Fatouretchi and Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Mndsgn. Sofie included the track on her SOS Tape, a collection of underground hip-hop and soul tunes she curated for the indie label Stones Throw Records, where she also worked as a talent scout.
  • Mndsgn, whose real name is Rinngo Ancheta, released his first solo album with Stones Throw, Yawn Zen, in 2014. He and Sofie were roommates in LA for a few years, and she introduced him to the label after she witnessed his talent firsthand. She told the Songfacts Podcast in 2021: "I came home from work one day and he was singing on a beat and I was like, 'Oh wow, what is this, you've got to make more of this!'"
  • Abeja is the Spanish word for bee.
  • In 2020, the pair released a music video for the song. In the laid-back visual, directed by Mndsgn, we follow the friends through Los Angeles on a sunny afternoon, where they end up in a spot that overlooks the city.
  • Sofie released her debut solo album, Cult Survivor, in 2020.
