Songfacts®:

  • This song was inspired by vocalist Torquil Campbell's reading about the public school educated British/Soviet double agent Kim Philby, who was one of the most notorious traitors in UK history. "To be English is to have secrets; to be a stranger; so in a way I guess this song is about me," Campbell told The Line Of Best Fit. "But it really started with an image of a parachute in the night sky, and it went from there."
  • Murray Lightburn from The Dears plays the guitar on the track. "You could argue that me and him are the darkest f--kers on the Montreal music scene," said Campbell. "It's all a bit dark, but quite velvety. Like a nice mug of cocoa with some cyanide in it."
