Songfacts®:

  • In 1974, ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with "Waterloo," a song in which a woman loses her heart to her new lover - i.e. meets her Waterloo.

Sixty years prior, the roles were reversed. According to the sheet music, "When I Met You I Met My Waterloo" was introduced by Arthur Monday of Sunday & Monday in The Honeymoon Express. Monday himself wrote the lyrics, the music was supplied by Carey Morgan and Leo Bennett, and the song was published by Jos. W. Stern, copyright 1914.

Sixty years is a lot time, but the ABBA song was well worth waiting for. >>>
