In 1974, ABBA won the Eurovision Song Contest with "Waterloo
", a song in which a woman loses her heart to her new lover - ie meets her Waterloo.
Sixty years prior to this, the roles were reversed. According to the sheet music, "When I Met You I Met My Waterloo" was introduced by Arthur Monday of Sunday & Monday in The Honeymoon Express
. Monday himself wrote the lyrics, the music was supplied by Carey Morgan and Leo Bennett, and the song was published by Jos. W. Stern, copyright 1914.
Sixty years is a lot time, but the ABBA song was well worth waiting for.
