Songfacts®:

  • This is about lead singer Kris Roe's relationship with his daughter, Starla. He rarely sees her because he is constantly touring and is never around. He lives in California while she lives in Indiana (Kris and her mother were never married and are no longer together). It also relates to his relationship with his own father, who was not around for some of his childhood due to a divorce. >>>

  • Casey from Buffalo, NyThis is my step-daughter's favorite song from So Long Astoria. My wife and I split and she won't let me see her. She hasn't seen her dad since her second birthday and has been calling me dad for half of her life now. She is six. Breaks my heart to think of her losing both of her dads... Kris is auctioning one of a kind hand-written Ataris lyrics on the eBay store. I noticed a few songs up but not this one, so I sent him an email and told him my story. He's sending me out the lyrics written out to her signed, but what was even more meaningful to me were his heartfelt words and understanding. His response was personal and empathetic. I'll never forget his kindness and understanding.
  • Smoore from Santa Barbara, Cathis song inspired me to write to my dad after seven years. we now have a healthy father-daughter relationship =)
  • Tara from West Palm Beach, Flthis song IS the saddest song. makes me cry
  • Carlos from Mexico City, MexicoKris, whenever they play this live, dedicated it to everyone who hasn't had a father present on important times. Living "without a father". He talks about it a little bit on their live CD, "Live At The Metro". Buy it at www.atarisbootleg.com, I highly recommend it.
