Album: Music From Big Pink (1968)
Play Video

Songfacts®:

  • The song's nonsensical lyrics (much like Big Pink track "Chest Fever") derive from the way the bandmates spoke to each other through rhymes and puns. >>>
    Suggestion credit:
    Brad - Glen Cove, NY
  • One of the few songs written entirely by Richard Manuel, it captured Manuel's wit and charm. Principal singers Manuel, Levon Helm, and Rick Danko all took turns singing the different verses. The song is thus widely regarded as one of the best examples of The Band's unique vocal finesse. >>>
    Suggestion credit:
    Joey - Athens, GA

  • Wyatt from Winthrop, Wai think it is a pretty good song, one of their best ones.
  • Kevin from Reading , PaI challenge anyone to name a band with three lead singers as talented Manuel, Danko and Helm. I can only think of The Beatles, and even there, I'm not so sure Harrison would hold up, mainly because they just didn't let him sing too man leads.
