• In a video interview, Smith reflected on the song's themes. "It's about how hard I find 'being' in the present moment, informed by questions of how 'I' remains 'I' through time," he said. "I know in my head that I am the sum of a multitude of other younger versions of me... but there are moments when I just can't believe it, I just can't accept it."
• Simon Gallup, the band's longest-serving member after Smith, has provided the foundation of The Cure's sound since 1979 with his distinctive bass lines. Gallup's rumbling, melodic playing shines on "All I Ever Am," delivering a bittersweet counterpoint to Smith's introspective musings.
