Songfacts®:

  • "Sleep When I'm Dead" was originally written during 1985's Head on the Door sessions. Robert Smith re-worked the song with new lyrics to take on current events. He told Rolling Stone: "I'm trying to be a bit more socially aware. I've always been very careful to shy away from that, but the songs are about things that bother me in a global sense."
  • This was the third consecutive release from 4:13 Dream to top the Spanish singles chart. Previously "The Only One" and "Freakshow" had reached #1.
