This is the fourth single from the eponymous debut studio album by American indie pop band The Drums. Frontman Jonathan Pierce told British newspaper The Independent: "I think of all the songs that we've released, this is the closest to a straight up, in-your-face pop song. There's no experimentation going on; it's just a simple, sad pop song. That's kind of what we go for; these pop songs that are pretty easy to relate to and sing along to."
The TV show Cheers was nearly canceled after its first season, but the theme song, "Where Everybody Knows Your Name," was very popular. To satisfy viewer demand, the theme was made into a full song and released as a single.
