Songfacts®:

  • Not to be confused with any later songs, including one recorded by Rihanna, the Hollies song "Russian Roulette" was written by the regular team of Allan Clarke, Tony Hicks and Terry Sylvester. The title track of their 1976 album, it is both the tenth track and the second on side two. Like the rest of the album it was written for the American market.
  • This just might be about a compulsive gambler on the downward spiral. A more optimistic - or at least a more open-ended song - on the same theme was recorded by Wishbone Ash the following year. >>>
