  • The Hooters were formed by Eric Bazilian and Rob Hyman. They had been in a band with Rick Chertoff, but when Rick took a job as a staff producer at Columbia Records, they put The Hooters on hold and began work on Cyndi Lauper's first album, She's So Unusual. The album was a huge success, and Columbia signed The Hooters. Since then, Bazilian and Hyman have written many songs for other artists, including Joan Osborne, Ricky Martin and Dar Williams.
  • Eric Bazilian told us: "'Day By Day' was a song that started as an experiment with Rick Chertoff and myself in my basement. I had that same porta-studio that 10 years later I wrote "One Of Us" on, and a little drum machine. Rick was over and we were sort of messing around with some guitar riffs. Rick had something in his head he was hearing but he couldn't express, so I was trying to play it without knowing what it was. We sort of crafted the basic melody of the song and then came up with the 'Day By Day By Day' thing melodically and lyrically. Then we spent 2 years whipping it into shape, trying to write lyrics that made any sense. They still don't, but they sound good." (Thanks to Eric for speaking with us about this song.
