All of the Luminous album was self-produced by The Horrors with the exception of this atmospheric track, which was helmed by Paul Epworth (Adele, Florence and the Machine). Frontman Faris Badwan explained to The Sun: "With 'Falling Star,' we had this song instrumentally for a long time and tried out loads of different vocals, melodies and lyrics, but weren't happy with any of them. Paul is so gifted, so I wanted to see what his opinions were."
"(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" was written by Nick Lowe in 1974. The original version with his group Brinsley Schwarz was kind of somber, but Elvis Costello made it a classic with his 1978 uptempo take.
