Album: Diplo Presents Thomas Wesley Chapter 1: Snake Oil (2019)

Songfacts®:

  • Diplo released this melancholic collaboration with Jonas Brothers under his country moniker Thomas Wesley. The superstar DJ and the band of brothers have been friends for a long time, and Diplo attended Joe Jonas' Las Vegas wedding to Sophie Turner. The ceremony was meant to be secret, but the media caught wind of it after the producer live-streamed the event. The pals traded friendly jabs on social media, and when Joe and Sophie had a second wedding ceremony, they held Diplo's phone captive.

The song's goofy music video explores what would have happened had Joe Jonas reacted in a different way. Directed by frequent collaborator, Brandon Dermer, it starts with Diplo apologizing to the DNCE singer for "ruining" his wedding. The band ignores his calls and texts, so the cowboy hat-clad musician attempts to garner their attention with increasing desperation.

The clip was filmed documentary style over the course of a weekend of touring at the Calgary Stampede, the Square Butte Ranch, the XS Nightclub in Las Vegas, Electric Lady Studios in New York City, and other locations.
