It was Toby Keith's songwriting partner, Bobby Pinson, who had the original idea of 'You're gone but I bet I haven't seen the last of you,' for this song. Keith recalled regarding penning the heartbreaking narrative: "This was one of those where we got halfway through and weren't sure if we were going to be able to finish it. The song features harmonies sung by Mica Roberts who is an artist signed to Keith's label Show Dog Nashville. She accompanied Keith on the song "Let's Get Trashed" from the soundtrack to the 2008 film Beer for My Horses and has been a backing singer in his band for a number of years.
"What's Up" by 4 Non Blondes has endured as one of the most popular songs of the '90s, but it wasn't a huge hit at the time and the band split after one album. Frontwoman Linda Perry went on to write hits for Pink and Christina Aguilera.
His keyboard work helped define the Muscle Shoals sound and make him an integral part of many Neil Young recordings. Spooner is also an accomplished songwriter, whose hits include "I'm Your Puppet" and "Cry Like A Baby."
