Songfacts®:

  • "Soldier In The Army Of Love" is a powerful anthem that combines strident guitar riffs with a message of hope and unity. It's a call to arms for a new generation of activists. Morello described it as "a salute to the transformative power of music as both a balm to heal the soul and a battering ram to fight for justice."
  • A standout feature of the song is a shredding guitar solo by Morello's 13-year-old son, Roman, who co-wrote the song.

"During the pandemic, while the rest of us were baking bread and trying to learn a language, he was practicing guitar for eight hours a day," Tom Morello explained to NME. "I've been relegated to being the rhythm guitar player in my family as I have a shredding prodigy now who's really giving me a run for my money. One day I was walking by his room and these huge drop-D riffs were coming out of there and I said 'What's that' and he said 'Oh, I've just been working on some riffs, do you think these go well together?' I was like 'Son. Those go very well together and we're about to write our first song together.'"

So Roman Morello wrote the riffs for "Soldier In The Army Of Love." Tom Morello composed the song and both father and son played on it.
  • Zakk Cervini and Carl Restivo produced the song.

Known for his work in rock and alternative music, Zakk Cervini has produced albums for a wide range of artists, including Blink-182, All Time Low and Bring Me The Horizon.

Carl Restivo was the production supervisor on Tom Morello's 2018 The Atlas Underground album. He also co-produced Nandi Bushell and Roman Morello's 2021 song "The Children Will Rise Up."
  • Morello released "Soldier in the Army of Love" on June 28, 2024. He described it as "the debut single from my first ever full-length solo rock album."
