Songfacts®:

  • A concept album inspired by classical composers, Night Of Hunters follows the journey of a woman grappling with the death of a relationship. Midway through her tale of woe, she arrives at a crossroads where a shapeshifter called Annabelle advises Tori to reclaim her power and embark on a new path towards healing. Amos described the scene as a "sacred ceremony of death and rebirth." She told Entertainment Weekly in 2021, "It's a dark night of the soul tale where everything is falling apart, [my character] is losing everything, and she's even losing herself… But that's not a bad thing."
  • This features vocals from Amos' 10-year-old daughter, Natashya Hawley, who sings from the perspective of Annabelle. Amos told Wears The Trousers it was a significant track in the album's song cycle, both sonically and thematically.

"There was a beat missing between 'Star Whisperer' and 'Nautical Twilight'," she explained. "Annabelle had to set up the circumstances for the woman to explain to us how she turned her back on her own force and abandoned it. Not confronting the woman - I think that word's too strong - but I thought it was important that Annabelle got to express herself at some point."
  • With Night Of Hunters, Amos' 12th studio album, the singer made Billboard history as the first female artist to simultaneously land in the Top 10 of Classical, Alternative, and Rock albums charts.
