Songfacts®:

  • "Push 2 Start" is a reggae-infused Afropop and amapiano delight that metaphorically compares the everyday act of starting a car into a metaphor for taking charge in love. With all the grace and sass of someone who knows exactly what they're worth, Tyla makes it clear she's not here for any idle revving. "Ride before I decide to go home," she demands.
  • Tyla wrote the song with Ari PenSmith, Believve, Mocha Bands, James McCarthy and Corey Marlon Lindsay-Keay. If those names sound familiar, it's because they've also had a hand in crafting Tyla's other hits, like "Water" and "Jump."
  • Sammy Soso, Tyla's go-to producer, created the track's fluid, car-inspired production. The beat hums and purrs like a finely tuned engine, effortlessly mirroring the lyrical metaphors with smooth gear changes and rhythmic accelerations.
  • Tyla gave "Push 2 Start" its live debut on October 15, 2024, at the 2024 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in New York City, where she performed it as part of a medley with "Water." She reprised the medley a month later at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester, England.
  • The song hit the airwaves alongside the deluxe edition of Tyla's self-titled debut album, Tyla +, where "Push 2 Start" was one of three new tracks.
  • The music video for "Push 2 Start," directed by Aerin Moreno, is set in a vibrant car wash, as Tyla and her backup dancers perform energetic choreography. The clip is reminiscent of Rihanna's video for " Shut Up And Drive," with Tyla even donning heels inspired by the Barbadian superstar.
  • "Push 2 Start" picked up the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2026. Tyla won the same award two years earlier for "Water."
