This song is dedicated to Laquan McDonald, a black 17-year-old who on October 20, 2014 was fatally shot 16 times in 13 seconds by Chicago Police Officer Jason Van Dyke (McDonald was armed with a 3-inch knife at the time). The shooting was caught on tape, and Van Dyke was subsequently charged with first degree murder. Mensa takes aim here at trigger-happy cops.
The Isley Brother's song, "Contagious," peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100. This meant that the band of brothers became the first group to score a Top 50 hit in six consecutive decades on the chart.
It was never a big hit, but "She's A Rainbow" became one of the most popular Rolling Stones songs in the digital age when it started showing up in commercials (iMac, Photoshop), and TV shows (American Horror Story: Coven, Ted Lasso).
