This song was co-written by Andy Pyle and the time serving Andy Powell. In the band's official biography, Pyle says he wrote a song called "Strange Affair" prior to his association with the band but told Powell that if he wanted to use it, it needed to be revamped.
Powell said the song is "a classic example of how a demo which sounded like a Roger Whitaker outtake could be transformed into a very credible rocker".
Originally, the song featured a 4 piece brass section but the band were told by their record label IRS to get rid of this.
The Strange Affair album was recorded at Ivy Lane Farm, Buckinghamshire, and is the only Wishbone Ash album to feature 2 different drummers.

In Gary Numan's "Cars," the message is that cars lead to a mechanical society devoid of personal interaction. This didn't stop automakers from using it in commercials. Both Nissan and Oldsmobile have used it in ads.
