Songfacts®:

  • In this very optimistic song, Ziggy Marley is living on the bright side, even during troubling times. It's a message espoused by his dad, Bob Marley, who was once shot in an assassination attempt and then played a joyful, free concert two days later.
  • "Brightside" is the title track to Ziggy Marley's 2026 album, his first since 2020. "I'm sharing a lot," he told Off The Record regarding the album. "There's a lot of vulnerability. My emotional health, my mental health is in there. I'm sharing because, tell you the truth, I made this album for myself. It was never like, 'Let me make this album for the world.' This music was for me."
  • Ziggy, who produced the album with his younger brother Stephen, used an unusual tuning frequency on it: 432Hz instead of the standard 440. "Frequency is a real thing," Ziggy explained to Off The Record. "We talk about the science of music. The frequency that we listen to things that affect us, it really does affect us. Look at the world today and look at the frequencies that the music's in, and it's all connected. If we all change the frequency that they're playing music at, it's going to change the world too. Everything is connected. I'm an advocate of changing the standard to 432 for everybody. Let's change the frequency. Everybody, let's change the frequency. Let's have a worldwide frequency change."
