  • Where is the moment we needed the most?
You kick up the leaves, and the magic is lost
You tell me your blue sky's faded to gray
You tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carrying on

You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee to go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You fall into pieces every time
And I don't need no carrying on

Because you had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me, "Don't lie"
You work at a smile, and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    The camera don't lie
You're coming back down, and you really don't mind
    You had a bad day
    You had a bad day

Will you need a blue sky holiday?
The point is they laugh at what you say
And I don't need no carrying on

    You had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me, "Don't lie"
You work at a smile, and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
    You had a bad day

    (Ooh, on a holiday)

Sometimes the system goes on the blink
And the whole thing, it turns out wrong
You might not make it back and you know
That you could be well, oh, that strong
And I'm not wrong (yeah, yeah)

So where was the passion when you need it the most?
    Oh, you and I
You kick up the leaves and the magic is lost

'Cause you had a bad day
    You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
    You say you don't know
    You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
    You had a bad day
    You see what you like
And how does it feel one more time?
    You had a bad day
    You had a bad day

    Ah, yeah
    Had a bad day
    Ah, ah, baby
    Had a bad day
    Ah, la-la-la
    Had a bad day

  • Steven from Detoilet, Michigan Good song.
  • Beau from Phoenix, AzHe wrote this song about the two years he spent in rehab getting over a cocaine addiction. That's straight from what he's said in numerous interviews.
  • Makana from Buford, GaAmy, I think you might be thinking of another song that gained popularity around the same time as this. ...Namely, James Blunt's "You're Beautiful". That song *was* about him seeing his girlfriend on the subway with another man. ...But both are still awesome songs in my mind either way.
This song might be overplayed some on radio still even after five years, but even so, I still find I haven't grown sick of it at all. It's just a nice mellow feel-good song that if I press play on, it'll put a bounce in my step as I go about my business. :)
  • Amy from San Antonio, Equatorial GuineaBelieve it or not this song is actually about hm going to a subway and seeing his girl friend with another guy.... not so happy anymore now is it.... sorry to ruin the happieness but that;s wat he said in a recent interview with the radio station Magic 105.3
  • John from St. Louis, MoThis song really helps me when I have had a bad day. When I did not make a team or everything seemed to go wrong, this helped get over it.
  • Steve from Uniontown, PaI thought this song was in the movie Derailed. After checking it was not listed in the soundtrack. Can anyone tell me what movie played this song?
  • Catherine from Glasgow, EnglandJimmy... Kate... Patrick... You heard it first!! well done!! do you want a medal?
  • Kami from New York City, NyThis song used to my favorite two years ago. Now it's old
  • Luke from Manchester, EnglandThis song's lyrics haven't been thought out properly: "you sing aa sad song just to turn it sround" ... If I'm upset, I can listen to Slayer ("angry" metal as some ignorant bastards call it), Fleetwood Mac (blues rock), Otis Redding (pure blues) or whatever and it'll make me happy - it doesn't have to be sad songs... why do people record songs that generalise?.... OH YEAH TO MAKE MONEY WHEN THEY HAVE NO TALENT!!!
  • Richel from Santa Ana, Cagreat vid, great song...would've been better had it been kept a secret =p
  • Luke from Manchester, EnglandAbsolutely abysmal song
  • Jack from Fox Point, Withis song is realking, smothing, and comferting I listen to it every day and it calms me when I'm mad or sad
  • Annie from Portland, MeI love this song.... But now it had leaked into the PowderPuffs at my school. They stole it! WHy does this happen to all the good songs?
  • Sara from Traverse City, MiI love this song!! Everytime I hear it I tell myself, you're going though a tough time right now, but it get's better and it's just an overall great song.
  • Nicole from Florida, Nythis song is so good exspecailly when you are having a bad day it just tells you to get over it and its gonna be ok
  • Allyson from In My Own Little World, TxNice uplifting song...amazingly I'm still not sick of it despite all the airplay it got. Glad it got popular though, I personally think we needed something a little different on the radio.
  • Laura from Brighton, MiI love this song because it reminds be how my friends and i have fights and that to us is bad days.
  • Jimmy from Birmingham, Mi""I have memorized the lyrics to this song (without googling it) but the sad part is, every other freaking kid loves it too. And they accuse me of being a sheep. ELLO! I am the one who sang that song before you even knew what it was. And you're calling ME the sheep?
    - Presley Kate Phillip, Houston, TX
I got this song form iTunes before it got really popular. Now everyone knows it, but I still like it a lot.
    - Adam, Bloomington, IN
I love this song. Unfortunately, thanks to pop radio, every stupid kid at school does too.
    - Patrick, Humboldt, IA ""

I AGREE...i got this song off of iTunes as a FREE single of the week.....I love it! 8 months later....every stupid person knows it and jumped on the bandwagon...i knew this song by heart on piano/vocals before anyone else knew who daniel powter was. awesome song, but almost annoying now, cause every stupid kid HAS to know it...
  • Brittany from Sierra Vista, Azthis song is on american idol!!!!
  • Sasha from Winchester, MnThis song isn't about how everyone has a bad day every once in awhile, it's about someone who's only happy when they're miserable and have something to complain about, and how annoying those people are.
  • Micky from Berkeley, CaI first heard this song on my friends Mspace profile and fell in love with it. It's a very well done song and makes me feel goo after my teachers been an a*s hole
  • Patrick from Milwaukee, WiI Love This Song, it makes me break in tears.
  • Jonathan from Philadelphia, PaIt is a great tune, but it is going to get played out.
  • Ashley from Moncton, CanadaAmazing that this talented, truthful indie artist from Canada landed at the top of the US charts and had his song played on American Idol every week. I always thought the song was really great, and reminded me of the 90s for some reason, then everyone liked it, and I thought finally something good is popular. I hop he just doesn't go and sell out like everyone elsse has.
  • Presley Kate Phillip from Houston, TxI have memorized the lyrics to this song (without googling it) but the sad part is, every other freaking kid loves it too.
