  • Don't tell me you don't know what love is
When you're old enough to know better
When you find strange hands in your sweater
When your dreamboat turns out to be a footnote
I'm a man with a mission in two or three editions

And I'm giving you a longing look
Everyday, everyday, everyday I write the book

Chapter one we didn't really get along
Chapter two I think I fell in love with you
You said you'd stand by me in the middle of chapter three
But you were up to your old tricks in chapters four, five and six

    The way you walk
The way you talk, and try to kiss me, and laugh
    In four or five paragraphs
All your compliments and your cutting remarks
Are captured here in my quotation marks

Don't tell me you don't know the difference
Between a lover and a fighter
With my pen and my electric typewriter
Even in a perfect world where everyone was equal
I'd still own the film rights and be working on the sequel Lyrics licensed and provided by LyricFind

  • Sputchess from UsI’m always sad when I learn that a song that I fell in love with actually meant nothing at all to the artist - oh well! Thank you for it anyways!
  • Paul Osman from Liverpool, EnglandFirstly the music style is like mid 1970s soul enhanced by the vocals of Carol and Chantelle(RIP).
The lyrics are definitely inspired by Book Of Love by the Monotones and I Could Write A Book by Frank Sinatra and others.
A classic by Elvis Costello who always dabbled with different styles.
  • Warmfart from Phillyeveryday I am writing the book, it is so great to have the time, I write at home, on the patio, sometimes after dinner or in the study, I too am writing the book, these words and songs are my inspiration for the books I write, elvis is a musician from the 70s yet somehow finds the time to remain relevant in 2021, I believe that is because of the books he has written, many books only get better as decades pass and so it will be with this as well, I eat a cheese steak from pats and cross the street to get another from genos, as one sandwich fills my bowels the next begins the digestion process, this is true with the words in the song as I listen from one song to the next on the records.
  • Piper from Portland Orelvis was amazing, he will always be remembered as the king of rock and roll, sorry he died in Memphis Egypt, I have been to tour his home in Graceland, I had a great time, we also played goofy golf in the evening.
  • Steve from Chino Hills, CaThe backup singers were known as "Aphrodisiac."
  • David from Atlanta, GaGood tune - kinda has that Motown feel to it
  • Jeff from Medina, OhI always enjoyed the video to this song with the Charles and Diana impersonators. Back in the good old days of MTV (when the M stood for MUSIC!)
  • Jeremy from Scottsdale, AzGreat song. I love the clever references to books in the song.
