  • Saint Paul the persecutor
Was a cruel and sinful man
Jesus hit him with a blinding light
    And then his life began
    I said yeah
    I said yeah

    Augustin knew temptation
He loved women, wine and song
    And all the special pleasures
    Of doing something wrong
    I said yeah
    I said yeah

I said yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me
    Oh yeah, oh yeah
He'll never make a saint of me

And could you stand the torture?
And could you stand the pain?
Could you put your faith in Jesus
When you're burning in the flames?
    I said yeah, mm

Well I do believe in miracles
And I want to save my soul
    And I know that I'm a sinner
I'm gonna die here in the cold
I said yes, I said yeah

I said yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me
    Oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me
    Oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me
    Oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me

    (Ooh)
I thought I heard an angel cry
    (Ooh)
I thought I saw a teardrop falling from his eye
    (Ooh) mm
    (Ooh) mm, come on

John the Baptist was a martyr
But he stirred up Herod's hate
    And Salome got her wish
To have him served up on a plate
    I said yeah
    Yeah, I said yeah

I said yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me
    Oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me
    Oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me
    Oh yeah, oh yeah
You'll never make a saint of me

I thought I heard an angel cry
    (Ooh)
I thought I saw a teardrop falling from his eye
    (Ooh) mm, yeah yeah
    (Ooh)
I thought I saw an angel cry, mm

You'll never make a saint of me, mm
You'll never make a saint of me, mm
Never make a saint of me, mm

  • Jim from Long Beach, CaI don't v care much for the Stones after "Some Girls" but they had a few moments like this one . Great song...
  • Steve from Phoenix, AzI don't know why I like this song.
Oh yeah, it's only rock and roll and
    I like it.
This song has substance, but thats' the
beauty of the stones if you want intelligence,
you've got it, if you want sitting in a bar
chasing women, you've got it, if want about
anything else you can extract from these
Monsters Of Rock. You've got it.
  • Patrick from Greenville, Scthe only great song of off a very weak Stones album.
  • Scott from Boston, MaI used to make fun of my mom for liking "old music" (the Stones are her favorite band), but then I heard this song on MTV/VH1 when I was 8 and liked it without even realizing it was the Stones. My mom told me if I like this song, I'd like all their songs cuz their older stuff was much better. Needless to say the Stones are one of my favorite bands now. My mom and I saw them at Fenway Park a few years ago and it was incredible.
  • Burningrabbit from Nowhere, WiMick makes this song. But let's not put too fine a point on it; it's just the one song. But damn does it sound good in the downtown club in my little city. I had no idea when I introduced it that it was not a new song of their's, so fresh does it sound to my ears. Mick, for whatever he is to those around him, is so suave when he wants to be. Love you live, you'll...!
  • Craig from Melbourne, AustraliaA brilliant song showcasing the intelligence of the Stones lyrics & the superb musicianship. Charlie rules this track.
  • Rachel from South Point, OhI like this song..
  • Jim from Troy, NyBilly Preston is not the only man to have recorded with both the Beatles and the Stones. Nicky Hopkins did too. There might be more, I know that Hopkins played on the White Album and Let it Bleed. He was probably one of the best session keyboard players in rock history.
  • Elias from Oost-souburg, NetherlandsThey made a terrible house version of this. Was on the cd-single.
