  • Supagal from DI love both versions. They are going to play this at my funeral; that's an order. I refuse to die if they don't, and I will spend the rest of my elongated life listening to it. Either way is a good deal.
  • George Pope from Vancouver BcMuch better than the Billy Idol version, that is explicitly about sex and drugs ("Get laid; get f**ked / Don't stop shooting up...")
  • Spike Melon from Hot Springs, ArI met Ritchie Cordell who liked MY song: " Far Away" but nothing ever came of it. Are there any affiliates out there whose interests I could peak to revive this song, plus the 200 others I've written since?

  • George Pope from Vancouver BcI kind of hope they got some swag or cash from Mutual for promoting their brand! I never realized the lyrics of Idol's containing swearing & cooking up heroin. . . A shame -- He ruins Tommy's clean-cut '60s kid version.
  • Rand from Greensburg PennsylvaniaThe original songs lyrics was not about drugs as some here have been lead to believe. Billy Idol asininly butchered the original and rewrote the third chorus with a drug related phrase which was originally written as "I love you mo mo Mony" . I hate Billy Idol's cover of this rock classic.
  • Terry from Naples, FlI’ve loved this song forever, now I’m old and still every time I hear it I crank it up loud and shake my car jammin’ . I’m having this played on the day I die, so I can jam in the afterlife! Woo hoo !!
  • T2 from Canton OhI hate this song. No one has ever hated a song as much as I hate this one.
  • Mavis from Upper Great LakedRide the pony is about drugs? Here I thought it was sex.
  • Barry from Sauquoit, NyOn January 26th 1969, Tommy James & the Shondells performed "Mony Mony" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...
Six months earlier on July 27th, 1968 it was at #34 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, and that was also its last day on the chart; it had peaked at #3 {for 1 week} on June 9th, 1968 and it spent 17 weeks on the Top 100...
On the same 'Sullivan' show they also performed "Crimson and Clover"; and at the time it was in its first of two weeks at #1 on the Top 100...
Between 1966 and 1970 the group had nineteen Top 100 records; seven made the Top 10 and two reaching #1, their other #1 record was "Hanky Panky" for 2 weeks in 1966.
  • Larry from Coral Springs, FlThis song is a blast..i can listen to it over and over again. I don't remember Tommy James and The Shondells doing this. But years later I enjoyed the verson by The California Raisins and then a few years later Billy Idol
  • Ezra from Rio, TxIn the 2000 film ON THE BEACH, the submarine crew lip synchs this song.ON THE BEACH (2000 version) is a complete downer about the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust,,,,they know that they are going to die.
  • Delbert from Pittsburgh, PaSad news for you guys. The song is about going to New York, and developing a relationship with heroin. That's what the pony rides ("horse" was a 60's name for smack) allude to. And the shoot 'em down, and the cooking, and the feel so good. One person did correctly point out that the "Mony, Mony" referred to a big Mutual of New York sign that Tommy James could see from his hotel.
  • Wayne from Leesburg, VaJust heard from Weezel on 947theglobe.com that Tommy James got the name of this song after looking out his hotel room window at a flashing Mutual of New York bank sign.
    ** MoNY MoNY **..... ** MoNY MoNY **
  • Kevin from Grand Forks, NdAbout the Billy Idol version...yes, the kids did swear during prom...often leading to the song to be on a list of "do not play" from school principals.
  • John from Fort Worth, Tx"Mony Mony" is a really fun song. The things that led up to its creation are great.
  • Zicomen from Novi Sad, SerbiaThe Stranglers recorded a cover version of this song under the (cover) name Celia and the Mutations. Actually, they were the band behing Celia.
  • Monica from San Francisco, CaAt first I thought this song was about sex, look at the lyrics! hahaha!
  • Andy from Tualatin, OrGreat Song! I only have billy idols version but both are good
  • Tom from Green Bay, WiTommy James and The Shondells were also one of the first acts to experiment with Music Videos of their hits starting with "Mony Mony" in 1968, thirteen years before MTV!!
  • Stefanie Magura from Rock Hill, ScYeah it's a great song!
  • Ryan from Mobile, AlThis is one of my favorite songs! I probably heard it first when I was about 9 when I was around my aunt. I have to be in the right mood for this song though. Sometimes IT JUST WON'T END!
  • Cameron from Sydney, AustraliaI LOVE THIS SONG. I was 12 when i first heard it on the radio. It got me dancing, even infront of my sister!
